Seldom Seen Poets find the spotlight at Sunrise Coffee
Wed, Feb 16, 2011 (4 p.m.)
Performing in front of a crowd is no easy feat. Folks with shaky nerves might consider the Seldom Seen Poets, a Wednesday open-mic night at Sunrise Coffee Co. that’s seen its share of nervous newcomers the past three years. “You can always tell who they are,” says host and co-founder Hannah Marisahl. “They sit away from the group, just close enough to hear. But by the time the night ends, they’re usually pulling out their notebook and sharing.”
The Details
- Seldom Seen Poets
- Wednesdays, 7 p.m., free
- Sunrise Coffee Co.
- 3130 E. Sunset Road, 433-3304
Despite the night’s name, Marisahl ensures all forms of expression are welcome. Songs, short stories and even painters have shared their work, and every first Wednesday of the month, the event hosts Vegas Slam, which packs the locally owned business. No matter which night people attend, Marisahl says all artists—amateur or experienced—can benefit. “It’s so good to hear other people’s voices. Every night I feel inspired.”
