Tarah Grace’s magnetic pull

The recent inductee into the Las Vegas Rock Hall of Fame is rough but vulnerable

As Las Vegas native Tarah Grace rocks out with her new band, The Magnetics, one thing is obvious: The veteran performer has a passion for the stage. Friday night at the Bunkhouse, Grace celebrated her birthday and Magnetics launch with a rock ’n’ roll spirit for a small crowd of familiar faces, including Vegas music legend Calamity Jayne. The country-tinged four-piece looks like a solid fit for Grace, who blends sultry Janis Joplin-y vocals with the throwback rock of Guns N’ Roses and Heart. Grace, who’s gigged around Vegas for decades, has also traveled and toured with cover bands throughout her career. But Grace and The Magnetics are no tribute act. Grace—recently voted into the Las Vegas Rock Hall of Fame (induction on May 1)—might be rough around the edges, but her lyrics are full of vulnerability. “It comes from a lot of different places” Grace says. “I’m inspired by everything I see, hear or experience.”
