Henderson Symphony updates a Chaplin flick with live music

The Henderson Symphony supplies the sound for the silent Chaplin flick.

Bring your blankets and celebrate the 70th anniversary of Charlie Chaplin’s classic 1931 silent comedy City Lights with an outdoor screening at the Henderson Pavilion. The Henderson Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Taras Krysa, will provide a live, updated take on the musical score. “This is the first time we are showing a film on the big screen and accompanying it with music,” says Krysa, adding that the movie and its projector were shipped from France just for the event.
In the film, Chaplin portrays his famous tramp character, trying to get the attention of a blind girl who thinks her suitor is handsome and wealthy. Chaplin wrote, directed and starred in City Lights, while also composing its score.
