Conversation starters: Vegas news in brief

Free Willy Given the growing number of people who languish in jail because they can’t afford to pay the bail on unpaid parking tickets, we can’t say we’re exactly heartbroken about North Las Vegas possibly cutting jail capacity to half what it was just a few years ago.

Bright future The Department of Energy has offered a $45.6 million conditional loan to a Spanish solar developer to build a massive solar farm near Las Vegas. Not only will it produce enough energy to power 4,700 local homes and create 250 construction jobs, it’ll also help an economy even worse off than our own: Spain’s.

Suspicious behavior We’re used to seeing our city on the national news, but we could have done without being tied to the Giants fan beating at Dodger Stadium. One of the suspects may also be involved with an attempted murder here in January. Ugh.
