If you see some brawny fellows sporting thick beards next week, be sure to say hello. The NHL Awards hit the Palms June 22, bringing with them hockey elite toasting on and off the Strip. Start player spotting with Anaheim Duck Corey Perry’s official pre-awards party at Chateau June 21, then hit the Fourth Period party at Moon June 22 and start haunting the Palms for a peek at my Bruins (hopefully toting the Stanley Cup by then).
As any Vegas nightlifer knows, membership has its perks. Joining Playboy Club and Savile Row in the realm of hot spots with hotter VIP programs, Nikki Beach at the Tropicana offers gold, platinum and black membership cards that confer on their owners things like free entry for friends, complimentary booze and access to nine Nikki venues all over the globe—for life. Cards start at $250 and top off at $5,000—steep, but easily appreciated when you find yourself partyless in Ko Samui. How do you say “I’m kind of a big deal” in Thai?
Ever dreamed of marrying an NBA player, landing a 20-plus-carat diamond ring and getting said rock replicated in ice so Vegas visitors can mug next to a 500-pound rendition of it? No? Well, maybe Kim Kardashian has bigger dreams. An icy imitation of the famous-for-nothing starlet’s engagement ring from Kris Humphries will be on display at the Monte Carlo and Mandalay Place locations of the Minus 5 ice bar through the end of the year. Why? Why the hell not?
With summer’s fruitier drinks and fiercer environments (high temperatures, unrelenting sun) come summer hangovers, an especially menacing foe. Your best defense? The Bloody Mary. Your favorite new battle ax? Belvedere’s Blood Mary vodka ($29), a macerated spirit with the flavors of tomato, horseradish, bell pepper and lemon—perfect for hangover-busting. Available at Total Wine, the new flavor should make defeating that pounding headache a wee bit easier. At least until the next one sets in.
