Sweet or savory, new takes on a French classic

Crêpes have been woefully underrepresented in Henderson. There have long been options for Strip-goers, from La Creperie to Jean Philippe Patisserie, but if you wanted to enjoy the thin pancake in the southeast, you were usually stuck at IHOP.
Not anymore. Local couple Ana Topete and Larry Cox opened Crêpe Expectations in a strip mall on Eastern about a month ago, and whether you’re a sweet or savory crêpe lover, you’ll find plenty to appreciate. “Ana was always a great cook, but her specialty was always crêpes,” Cox says. were only one small part of the menu, Cox and Topete decided to focus entirely on the French classic, combining them with other dishes Topete likes to make.
That’s where things take a turn from the French. I highly recommend the Bomber (meatballs, mozzarella and tomato sauce) and the Sonora (carne asada, salsa, guacamole and jack cheese). For dessert there are plenty of options with the traditional Nutella, but we also loved the Frisco (blueberries in lemon curd) and the Avalon (buttered pears, goat cheese, candied walnuts and honey). As an added bonus, you can watch an overhead shot of your crêpe being prepared on a TV screen hanging over the counter.
If you’ve never tried a crêpe before, this is the place to do so. As Cox puts it, “We’ve taken crêpes outside the box.”
