The Details
- The Killing
- Sundays, 10 p.m., AMC
Based on a Danish series, The Killing follows a single murder investigation (of a teenage girl in Seattle) over the course of its entire season, delving into the worlds of the detectives working the case, the victim’s family and a local politician and his team who are connected to the crime. Developed for American TV by Veena Sud, a former writer and producer on Cold Case, The Killing struggles a little in its first two episodes to make itself more than just a really, really slow episode of a typical crime procedural. But the deliberate pacing allows Sud to explore the characters in more depth, and show how each small detail leads detectives to the next step in their investigation. Even with its share of clichés, The Killing has an appealing solemnity and a sense that the storytelling will get richer as the season progresses.
