Sure, he’s aided Downtown development, but if Mayor Oscar Goodman has given this city one thing over the years, it’s laughter. Theatre 7 is capitalizing on that hilarity by showing OSCAR: A Good Man, the Arts District venue’s first original play, through the June 7 Las Vegas mayoral election. The production is a hybrid of live performance and film clips, and the content will modify as new material presents itself. One recent script addition even pokes fun at wife/potential successor Carolyn Goodman’s unfortunate word choice during an LGBT-sponsored mayoral debate. “Did you know that was a transvestite bar?” “Honey, it’s called a gay bar!” But as this production is an ode to Oscar, don’t think the jokes end at current events. With 12 years of showgirl-flanked grand entrances and Bombay Sapphire references, there’s more than enough stageworthy material available to celebrate the happiest mayor on earth.
