Bishop Gorman High’s Shabazz Muhammad started his jump a step inside the free throw line, easily elevating over a defender for a monstrous one-handed dunk. The packed gymnasium of fans reacted as if they were watching the NBA slam dunk contest. I felt the same way—it’s just something you never see covering high school basketball. The 6-foot-6 rising senior swingman is considered by several the best prep basketball player in Las Vegas history. Roy Williams of North Carolina, Mike Krzyzewski of Duke and Bill Self of Kansas have racked up plenty of frequent flier miles coming to Las Vegas to watch him play.
