High number of Nevada artists exceeds national average

We made another list, in an unlikely category. Nevada is one of 14 states exceeding the national average of artists in the workforce, according to a recent report by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Culling 2005-2009 data from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, the NEA reveals that workers whose primary job is “being an artist” constitute 1.5 percent of Nevada’s labor force.
Nevada’s high ranking can be attributed to dancers, who fall under its broad category of arts workers, which also includes fine artists, architects, designers, actors, announcers, musicians, photographers and writers.
Helping to tilt the scales even more might be the “other entertainers” category—circus performers, comics, jugglers, magicians, showgirls and ventriloquists.
Las Vegas is also among list of metro areas that “exceed the national average for employment in theater companies”, following New York, Minneapolis, Seattle.
