How does a banana sound as it melts? Maybe something like the untitled final track on Melt-Banana’s 1994 debut, Speak Squeak Creak. That intense two minutes and 35 seconds finds the Japanese noise-rock outfit playing the album’s other 24 songs—simultaneously.

Amazingly, that blast of insanity isn’t too dissimilar from Melt-Banana’s usual sonic fare. Female singer Yasuko Onuki, masked guitarist Ichirou Agata, bassist Rika Hamamoto and whatever touring drummer they have onboard specialize in making your brain hurt in the best possible way.

If that sounds like it might be your kind of weird, type “Melt-Banana” and “What a Wonderful World” (yeah, the Louis Armstrong song) into your YouTube search box. Or just head down to the Bunkhouse on Friday night. Might be best to leave your fruit in the fridge.
