Nightlife news & notes: Studio 54 goes country, a Prohibition-inspired party and more

It’s one crazy idea: a happy hour that bounces venues and themes, combining music, art, fashion and alcohol. That ambitious concept debuts December 1 under the name 1CrazyHappyHour, with the first installment—Blues, Booze and BBQ—from 5-8 p.m. at Buzz BBQ. The kickoff will feature art, a blues performance, a classic car show and spoken word by a guy nicknamed The Machine. They don’t call it crazy for nothing.

Beer geeks, commence your happy dance. Local bar Aces & Ales is hosting back-to-back events this week starting with Sierra Nevada ambassador Steve Grossman pouring 18 of his beers (including some that have never left the brewery) on December 1. The following night Green Flash celebrates its Vegas debut with eight taps of brews like Le Freak Belgian IPA, Hop Head Red Ale and the ninth anniversary IIIPA that’s not for the faint of palate. Both events start at 7 p.m., and the first 48 pours take home free glassware.

If you want to save a horse and ride a cowboy this week, spots like PBR Rock Bar, Stoney’s and Gilley’s are always a safe bet, but there’s a new watering hole opening in time for the National Finals Rodeo. Saloon 54 (better known as soon-to-close club Studio 54) will be getting a little bit country December 1-10 (dark December 4) with beer specials, beer pong, pool, air hockey and foosball. Start practicing your “howdy.”

Happy 78th birthday, Repeal Day. It’s time to raise a glass to the folks who decided to take back that whole Prohibition thing. On December 4, Tobin Ellis of BarMagic returns to Vegas for a swank soiree with gourmet cocktails created by bartenders flown in from across the country. Dress naughty or nice with a bit of red for entry to the secret location, which will be revealed on the SM Facebook page. On December 5, RM Seafood and Southern Wine & Spirits celebrate the right to serve, with happy hour specials 6-9 p.m. featuring small plates, deals for guests in period attire and vintage cocktails like Plymouth gin punch and the Bee’s Knees.
