The good and the bad about Nevada’s moved-up GOP caucus

Is an earlier date helping or hurting the Nevada Republican Party?

Is an earlier date helping or hurting the Nevada Republican Party?

Good news and bad news for Nevada Republicans. The good: Nevada’s holding its caucus early—in January, instead of the previously scheduled February 18. The bad: It’s losing half of its national convention delegates as a result. (The Republican National Committee put this penalty in place to discourage states from moving up their primaries.) It’s Florida’s fault. They jumped ahead of us, Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. So now we’ve got to jump back in front of them. And who’s winning this game of political leapfrog? Florida? Nevada? No, President Obama is. Inter-Republican gamesmanship only helps the Democrats.
