Santa Claus. The Easter Bunny. The Tooth Fairy. A Las Vegas real estate agent who sold 931 homes last year. The first three names on that list are imaginary. You’d think the fourth one would be as well—but you’d be wrong. Jared Jones, the owner of Horizon Realty Group, did just that. Jones is No. 4 on “The Thousand,” an annual list put out by the Wall Street Journal of the most productive agents in the country (A Kansas City agent sold 1,268). If you’re doing the math, Jones’ stat works out to slightly more than two homes a day. If you exclude weekends, it’s closer to three or four.
It’s an amazing feat, sure, but Jones isn’t doing all this by himself—he has a support staff of anywhere from 20 to 30 people, handling everything from taking photos of homes to turning in reports to providing feedback on properties. It’s an unorthodox departure from traditional real estate and the “Lone Ranger” agent, but then again, the market itself isn’t exactly orthodox. Las Vegas is the foreclosure capital of the world, and Jones says pre- and post-foreclosure homes account for nearly 98 percent of his business.
But despite the large staff, Jones notes he’s always the face of his company, unlike those where the guy in the commercials isn’t necessarily the person you deal with. “I’m on-site with my staff from 7:30 in the morning to well after they’ve gone home. My clients call me directly on my cell. I’m not an absentee landlord.” And in case you’re wondering, yeah, he wants the No. 1 spot next year.
