Sexy and you know it: Dissecting LMFAO’s new music video

Have you seen Jubilee!? And did you walk out of it saying, “I liked the variety and I liked the camp, but for my taste, there just weren’t enough dudes in thongs”? If so, I have a feeling you’re going to like LMFAO’s new music video, “Sexy and I Know It.”

“Sexy and I Know It” is what happens when artists become so (rightfully) secure in their fame and masculinity that they get bored.

Remember what Truman (from The Truman Show) did when he started to suspect the world ran around him? He tested his infallibility. He ran into the middle of the street and tried to stop traffic with his will. He wanted to see if it would kill him. That’s basically what LMFAO is doing with “Sexy and I Know It.”

“What if we tried, with a straight face, to popularize a dance move called the ‘wiggle’ where you basically just jiggle your penis a little bit, like you do when you’re done peeing?” Redfoo wondered. And SkyBlu immediately said, “Let’s find out!” A couple minutes later, the “Sexy and I Know It” video had wrapped.

Calendar

Party Rock Mondays
October 10, 10 p.m., $30 men, $20 women, locals free.
Marquee, 333-9000

Which isn’t to say the video is bad. It’s really fun and really funny. And you’re not laughing at LMFAO, you’re laughing with them.

“Sexy and I Know It” combines pastel leopard print thongs with towel snapping, shuffling, “wiggling,” Ron Jeremy and Wilmer Valderrama. Sure, it’s phoned in, but it’s phoned in in the good way—the way Picasso could phone in a painting while, at the same time, having sex with his model and eating an olive pastry.
