Miss Chinese Cosmos is currently underway in Reno.

The weeklong Miss Chinese Cosmos beauty pageant is under way, with a projected 10 million Chinese TV viewers watching the broadcast. (Miss America, by comparison, pulled in about 8 million sets of eyes.) So why are you reading about this in Las Vegas Weekly? Because the Miss Chinese Cosmos pageant isn’t being held in Beijing or Shanghai. It’s being held in Northern Nevada. Why Reno? Is it because they’ve got that P.F. Chang’s on Kietzke Lane? According to Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, chair of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, “Nevada has gained a reputation as a prime vacation destination for Chinese travelers.” That’s true. Though I’m pretty sure the big draw is Vegas. Or maybe Reno’s P.F. Chang’s is really, really big in China.
