[The Backstory]

A big milestone for a bigger diva

It’s always showtime with Frank Marino.

1,000th performance of Divas Las Vegas | Imperial Palace | July 21, 2012 | 9:43 P.M.

“Well, what are we doing?” And with that, I was ushered into the world of Las Vegas’ best known drag queen, Frank Marino.

For a story highlighting the 1,000th performance of Divas Las Vegas, I was invited into his dressing room, where Frank pulled out all the rhinestone stops, playfully posing with various shiny objects used in the creation of his onstage persona. From the army of Styrofoam heads supporting some of his 100 wigs to the requirement that the only colors are pink, purple or green, this little corner of the Imperial Palace is Frank’s World. We just live in it—or in my case, visit for 20 minutes.
