Hatch chili roasts at Albertsons fire up this weekend
Thu, Aug 9, 2012 (11 a.m.)
Hatch chili season has arrived. Lovers of the spicy New Mexican pepper are itching to add this southwestern staple to their salsas, omelets, rellenos, burgers, and just about anything else, and local Albertsons supermarkets are making it easy.
Select stores are hosting their annual Hatch chili roasting events starting on Saturday, August 11. Pick up a 30-pound sack of chilis for $34.99, a price that includes roasting. Guests are limited to ten sacks per person while supplies last, which seems like a crazy amount of peppers until you realize these things are delicious. They're good for you, too: one medium-sized chili pod has as much vitamin C as six oranges.
It should be easy to find the spot—just follow the tempting, smoky aroma. But just in case, here are the locations and schedule for Albertsons' Hatch chili roasts:
At 1650 N. Buffalo Dr. (562-6079) on Aug. 11 and 12 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
At 8410 Farm Road (658-2030) on Aug. 17 from 4 to 9 p.m.; Aug. 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Aug. 19 from 8 a.m. until noon.
At 575 College Drive in Henderson (568-0115) on Aug. 25 from 5 to 10 p.m.; and Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At 7350 S. Rainbow Blvd. (739-1033) on Sep. 1 from 5 to 10 p.m.; and Sep. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
