If you’re looking for Jesse Smigel’s giant gnomes that lived briefly in the Boulder Plaza Sculpture Park behind the Arts Factory this summer, you'll find them at City Hall where they’ve taken up temporary residence.
The gnome duo of Gnot the Proper Gnomenclature is now on the second-floor patio near City Hall’s galleries and art collection, proving that giant (nine-foot) lawn and garden ornaments have a place in civic life.
Smigel, a sculptor “obsessed” with lawn art and frustrated with the lack of art in Boulder Plaza, was hired by the city to create the gnomes and launch the Plaza’s art program back in May. In doing so, he succeeded in creating a successful Downtown/First Friday destination and photo op, something for all ages that he hoped, would circulate social media sites.
Another destination site for the photos is city’s Las Vegas Gnomes Project site, ourlasvegas.wordpress.com, where visitors upload their images and videos.
The gnomes will be at City Hall, 495 S. Main St., through Jan. 17, before moving onto another home. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
