Mop racing at the Olympics

2012 Housekeeping Olympics | Mandalay Bay Events Center | August 15, 2012 | 7:55 P.M.

It was the 2012 Las Vegas Housekeeping Olympics, and there I stood in the middle of it all. Las Vegas, like a finely tuned machine, relies on the efforts of many different people working together. And there’s no denying that housekeepers are one of the most important groups keeping this city running, not to mention one of the most hardworking. Housekeeping staff from different hotel properties filled up half of the Events Center as they faced off in events such as Bed Making and Mop Racing. In this particular image, a young man representing New York-New York competes in the Vacuum Race while being cheered on by a fellow employee dressed as Lady Liberty.
