It was a night when the music roared -- and soared. For the rockers, it was one nonstop party on and off the red carpet and onstage and off. For the fans and the audience, it was a total blast from start to finish.
Rock and roll publishing queen Sally Steele, dressed in rocking red, masterminded her third-annual Vegas Rocks! Magazine Awards to celebrate the eighth anniversary of her music magazine.
TV and radio personality and “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest and sports mogul millionaire Mark Cuban joined forces to launch their cable TV network AXS and broadcast the awards live Sunday night from the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel. (AXS was formerly HD TV.)
The night belonged to Sammy Hagar (Van Halen, Chicken Foot), who picked up the Voice of Rock Award, and David Coverdale (Whitesnake), who received the Lifetime Achievement in Rock and Roll Award. Another major highlight was the appearance of Michael Schenker (Scorpions, UFO), who flew over from England to receive his Rock Guitar Legend Award.
Many other awards were handed out in between onstage jam sessions. The highlight, of course, was the finale when every star in the house went onstage in what had to be a multimillion-dollar lineup, with Sammy leading the parade and even crowd surfing before the show ended.
Our Editor at Large John Katsilometes was there for all of the excitement, and we’ll post his report later today. Our thanks to the contributing photographers for their amazing coverage and videographer Richard Corey for his red carpet and closing number videos.
“It was a triumphant night,” Sally summed up. “Fantastic for rock and great for Las Vegas fans. Now to start on next year!”
