Ladies of the year, 2012
When photojournalist Leila Navidi took the time to sit down and think about it, she realized that all of her most memorable photos from 2012 involved women in some way. Images of women are used to sell Las Vegas, but those are hardly representative of all the different kinds of women who live here. One of the great things about working for local news publications is getting to uncover the real people beneath the veneer of this often misunderstood city. This year, Navidi has seen teen moms struggling to make ends meet, women trying to make their Vegas dance dreams come true, pageant princesses, dollar store divas, streetwalkers on Boulder Highway, proud strippers, prom queens, bingo stars, moms, boozers, athletes and drag queens. Here are a few of Leila’s “Ladies of the Year.”
