Waiting for the Zombie Apocalypse that never came
Wed, Dec 26, 2012 (3 p.m.)
You might have noticed something unexpected when you woke up on Saturday morning: 1. You woke up. 2. The world hadn’t come to a screeching halt. I ventured out to Fremont Street on Saturday to confirm that the apocalypse hadn’t come and that zombies weren’t threatening to take over the Earth. And? Not a single zombie—this despite a Zombie Apocalypse Facebook event, which had more than 1 million RSVPs. The street was quiet, but not I Am Legend quiet. The closest thing to a burning landscape was the Golden Nugget’s Bar 46 fire pit, and the closest thing to living dead were golden cowboy living statues (three of ’em now) plying their trade for spare change and $1 bills. I’ll check back in on January 1, 2017—according to the Sword of God Brotherhood, that’s the real end of days.
