Putting three iPad apps to the test

Slotomania
Slotomania claims to “bring a Vegas experience to your fingertips,” and it actually does. It’s not that the game designers painstakingly mimicked a Vegas slot; it’s that in recent years, Vegas slots have evolved to resemble iPad games: the cartoony graphics, the stupid sound effects.
Technically, Slotomania is a penny slot; you can bet one cent per spin. But as with Vegas slots, you can also bet nine lines at a time, and you can bet two dollars per line—$18 a spin, in other words. Also, you can play with real money if you choose. How’s that for a Vegas experience? Free.
Showyou
You don’t need this app. I mean, you don’t really need any iPad app—but you especially don’t need this one. You already have it, essentially, as part of Facebook.
All Showyou does is let you know which videos are popular and which videos your friends are sharing on Facebook. Sure, the layout is pretty, but the filtering isn’t as effective as Facebook’s. When a video comes to the top of my Facebook news feed, I’m usually interested. Most of the videos on Showyou don’t do it for me. Free.
Plump&Slim BoothHD
It’s like FatBooth, only it’s for the whole body—and you can go skinny, too. It’s easy to use, and the results are dreamy. But before you download, make sure you have a strong self-image. Because once you see a digitally augmented, idealized version of yourself, the real version might not seem so hot. Free, HD version $1.99
