Tim Tebow takes his act to church in Las Vegas

Like many celebs, the NFL star is hosting in town. Unlike most, he’s doing it off-Strip … at a church

Just before stepping onstage at the Oscars on Sunday, Robert Downey Jr. knelt down, clenched his fist and did something that just a year ago would’ve been unthinkable: He Tebowed.

Yes, the NFL QB whose name is now a verb managed to infiltrate a spectacle that would seem to have nothing to do with him. And this weekend he’s doing it again: Tim Tebow is coming to Las Vegas.

Of course, plenty of on-the-rise celebrities pass through town. They walk red carpets, pop bottles at nightclubs and give shout-outs to the partiers who pay to bask in their presence and bring home the stories. Not Tebow. Instead of sitting in a VIP booth, he’ll take the podium at Canyon Ridge Christian Church March 3 and 4 for speeches during the church’s Saturday evening and Sunday morning services. Instead of giving props to the party people, he’ll probably shout out his man J.C. And he won’t be downing bottles of Grey Goose; alcohol is strictly prohibited on Canyon Ridge’s campus.

For now, the gig seems almost perfect for Tebow’s squeaky-clean image and constant religious invocations. (They’re probably better suited to a church than a press conference, anyway.) But if someday Tebow’s ready to take his act to the club? “A booking like that would make some noise,” Tao Group’s Mike Snedegar said. “I think he would do well.”
