Thinking about NYE parties, ‘28 Days Later’ and more

Mark Adams, Rick Lax, Ken Miller, Kristen Peterson, Erin Ryan

Wed, Jan 4, 2012 (2 p.m.)

Yes and no

I waited almost 10 years to watch 28 Days Later. I was that scared, based only on my old roommate’s description of the plot. Was it scary? Hell yes. But Danny Boyle could learn a thing or two about horror from my old roommate. —Erin Ryan, staff writer

Not feeling blue

Best live show I saw this week: A dude in the Blue Man Group gift shop, air-drumming his heart out to Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.” Passion, man. Passion. —Ken Miller, associate editor

Road weary

Stopped off in Wickenburg, Arizona, and asked business owners what they think about the new bypass that breezes cars past town rather than through it. No surprise, they’re pissed. —Kristen Peterson, staff writer

Home rules

Instead of partying it up Strip-side for NYE, I opted for a friend’s party in suburban Green Valley. I didn’t need to wear dress shoes, I was warm and my only expense was a $7 bottle of Barefoot Bubbly. House parties FTW! —Mark Adams, listings coordinator

Perspective

Living in Vegas, you don’t appreciate how warped your sense of beauty becomes until you head back to the Midwest for a week and get reminded what most Americans look like. —Rick Lax, staff writer
