A Coachella (video) playlist to get you ready for Friday’s on-sale
Thu, Jan 12, 2012 (7:59 p.m.)
Tickets for the 2012 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival go on sale Friday, January 13 at 10 a.m. Las Vegas time through Coachella.com. Passes for Weekend 1 (April 13-15) are already close to selling out, according to festival organizers, after a robust pre-sale, while passes for Weekend 2 (April 20-22) are in greater supply.
If you’re stressing out thinking about scoring the tickets you want, allow us to calm your nerves with some music from the most eye-popping names on this year’s lineup poster …
Pulp, “Disco 3000”
Who? Brit-pop band, best known for its 1990s output, reunited in 2011 after a nine-year hiatus. Coachella is its first scheduled U.S. performance in over a decade.
Mazzy Star, “Common Burn”
Who? Santa Monica dream-pop outfit, famous for haunting arrangements and singer Hope Sandoval’s ethereal vocals. This song is expected to be included on the group’s upcoming album, its first since 1996.
At the Drive-In, “Napoleon Solo”
Who? Before The Mars Volta, there was ATDI, an urgent rock quintet from El Paso, Texas. The band split suddenly in 2001, and reunited just as unexpectedly with an announcement this week.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor, “Moya”
Who? Montreal post-rock collective, beloved for its slow-developing instrumental soundscapes. Best listened to through headphones.
Jeff Mangum, “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea”
Who? Legendarily reclusive frontman for underground icons Neutral Milk Hotel. He toured last year for the first time in more than a decade.
fIREHOSE, "Flyin’ the Flannel"
Who? The two surviving members of seminal California punk outfit the Minutemen, fronted by a longtime fan of that band. They haven’t played as fIREHOSE since 1994.
Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg, “Dre Day”
Who? You know who they are. And probably that Dre rarely performs live anymore.
