Sinner's sentence

Catholic priest Kevin McAuliffe received three years in prison for embezzling $650,000 from his congregation to support a gambling habit. This despite the fact that he never sought help and never touched his own savings. He got lots of support from his congregation, who pointed to his good works with the church, but we submit that he was in a position of authority and trust, which makes his crime all the more heinous. Three years is a joke, and no deterrent for future thieves.

That's America!

Laura Kaeppeler, winner of this year’s Miss America Pageant, campaigned as the child of an ex-con. It’s a nice change of pace from the typically milquetoast pageant platform, but we hope organizers are ready for the precedent this sets. It won’t be long before we see contestants who were former crack babies and ex-conjoined twins. Jerry Springer could host!

Be like Mike

Mike Tyson wants to be a Las Vegas tour guide for U.K. band The Wanted when they stop here on their U.S. tour. Oh, and one of the boys is still only 18. Let us just say this sounds like nothing but unmitigated trouble, something that will paint Las Vegas in the worst light possible ... and that we can’t wait for it to happen. Maybe Mike will finally finish that face tattoo.
