For a group of budding and young journalists, The Big 2-1 wasn’t particularly special or over the top. But for DJ Alesso, the milestone celebration was at XS, one of the most celebrated nightclubs in the world, at Steve Wynn’s Encore on Monday night.
The wunderkind is one of the youngest DJs on XS’ roster of 36 electronic dance music residents and celebrated with his BFFs from Sweden. Alesso et al kicked off Monday night dining at the launch of Botero Supper Club at chef Mark LoRusso’s Encore restaurant, where guests were given milk chocolate lollipop bonbons wishing Alesso a Happy Birthday.
Shortly after midnight, XS Managing Partner Jesse Waits, who was a guest columnist today explaining the success and longevity of EDM, escorted Alesso to XS, where the group was greeted by 30 model cocktail servers lining the gold staircase onto the dance floor.
Warren Peace served as the first DJ and made the announcement to welcome the birthday boy as he was presented with a four-tiered gold cake created by Gimme Some Sugar. As they made their way into XS, more than 2,000 balloons reading “Happy Birthday Alesso” dropped.
Once onstage, Alesso was surrounded by, among others, DJ Otto Knows, Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson. Alesso, who has worked with Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta and Keane and was recognized by MTV as an EDM artist to watch in 2012, spun the wheels of steel until the wee hours as confetti rained onto the dance floor.
“It has been an amazing experience to watch Alesso grow from a teenager into the DJ he is today with such a signature style offering incredible sounds,” said Waits in a news release. Thanks to Danny Mahoney for his photo gallery of the birthday boy.
Oh, to be 21 again.
