While Robin Leach takes his traditional summer vacation under the Tuscan sun in Italy, many of our Strip and Las Vegas personalities have stepped forward in his absence to pen their own words of wisdom. Our thanks to them all. We continue today with hair guru to the stars Michael Boychuck, who with his salon Color at Caesars Palace and his new LifeSpa + Salon by Michael Boychuck is the only man free to run his hands through Paris Hilton’s hair!
By Michael Boychuck
Once again, it is that time of year when the hardest-working man in Las Vegas takes a much-needed vacation, and, as always, I’m happy to have the opportunity to step inside his shoes for a day.
The timing couldn’t be better, as I have some very exciting news to share. Locals have long been our most treasured clientele, and I am finally opening my first neighborhood salon. LifeSpa + Salon by Michael Boychuck celebrates its grand opening this month, and I couldn’t be happier. Located at Life Time Athletic in Summerlin just east of Red Rock Resort on West Charleston, we are now just minutes away from many of our longtime clients.
If you aren’t a member of Life Time Athletic or if you have never been, now is the time to go check it out. With an appointment at my salon, you receive a day pass to check out the gorgeous facility: from its oversized pool and slide to an array of classes, they have it all. If you want to bring your kids, they will watch them at their childcare center while you get your hair, nails and makeup done.
Fourteen of my stylists are joining me in this venture; we love our new home. With some of the city’s best stylists, colorists, makeup artists and nail technicians, I am bringing high-quality style to the suburbs. I have long been known for my celebrity clients, including all of the women in the Hilton family, and with LifeSpa + Salon, my team will make you look like a celebrity, too.
Here's what I'm telling my clients about style and hair care this hot summer: Always use a leave-in conditioner. The cream types are thicker and last longer. They will protect hair in the summer by providing protection against sun damage. They also protect against heat damage from blow dryers and curling and flat irons. Kerastace has a great selection of leave-ins; my favorite is the Nectar Thermique. When in doubt, go to Kerastace.
Here’s what I will be telling my clients about style this fall: Loose, sexy hair is still strong, which means keep your hair in longer layers. This gives you maximum styling options. Start out with a great blow dry on Day 1. On Day 2, pull the hair back on one or both sides securing with a hair clip. On Day 3, put in a braid in the top going from side to side. This is needed because by Day 3, your top hair will begin to fall flat, especially on the top. On Day 4, you have two options: Put your hair in a loose bun or head to the salon ASAP because you will need a fresh blow dry to keep you looking haute.
Here are my hairstyle and color predictions for this fall and winter: The newest color rage is the non-ammonia color Inoa by Loreal. It is actually the new and improved launch. The first launch had a few problems, so it has been fine tuned and perfected. It now provides better gray coverage and brighter colors. It adds more shine; I love it for all types of hair.
With all my good news, I also have some sad news to report. After 12 successful years, I will no longer be working with Amp salon at the Palms and Primp salon at Palms Place. Working with George, Colleen and the entire Maloof family has been one of the highlights of my career. Though we are parting ways in business, I know we will remain lifelong friends.
In addition to LifeSpa’s grand opening, I am celebrating another wonderful year at Color in Caesars Palace. There is nothing like it on the Strip, and I love being a part of something that delivers such incredible, high-end services. Color is the top style spot on the Strip for celebrities; there’s no better place to be pampered.
I’ve recently had the honor of working with singer LeAnn Rimes, Joe Manganiello of “True Blood” and “Magic Mike” and 2012 Miss USA contestants, as well as 2011 Miss USA Alyssa Campanella. My beauty team cared for the hair and makeup of my longtime friend Paris Hilton for her Electric Daisy Carnival adventures. I love being able to provide glitz and glamour for all of my clients.
Color and LifeSpa + Salon are staffed with the best specialists in Las Vegas with years of experience under their belt. From platinum blonde to the darkest shade of black, I have always had a passion for transforming people through color, and my remarkable staff loves being able to make over guests from all walks of life.
