Skrillex and Cake Skrillex: can you tell them apart?

It’s hard to believe it has been two years since Surrender opened its doors, but last Wednesday the Encore club celebrated its terrible twos with a blowout bash featuring an appearance by the cast of Le Rêve, servers in nerdy schoolgirl attire and DJ sets by Nervo and Skrillex. To top things off, the club presented the-DJ-who-launched-a-thousand-haircuts with his very own avatar-topped cake. Mmmm, Skrillex—now for dessert!
If you love the ’80s as much as the rest of us, this one’s for you. Last Friday, the Venetian opened the Bourbon Room, a themed bar that’s heavy on nostalgia and its namesake liquor, with servers in period dress, Van Halen blasting from the speakers and 60 types of bourbon to sample. The bar is branded to go with Broadway musical Rock of Ages, slated to open at the resort later this year.
More into rockabilly than drum and bass? Forget the masses migrating to the Speedway this Saturday and make a beeline for Beauty Bar and its Bettie Page tribute night (10 p.m., $10). The evening includes a pinup fashion show, burlesque dancers, vendors and DJ Lucky LaRue on the tables. So for God’s sake, leave the deep V at home.
And thanks to Bare, the world is at your fingertips ... or at least your eardrums. This Wednesday, the Mirage pool lounge launched new mid-week jam World Beat Wednesdays, a party set to the tune of Latin, Caribbean and European tracks. If you don’t have to work on hump day, spend it dancing to this international soundtrack.
