The Details

Baguette Cafe
8359 W. Sunset Road, 269-4781.
Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

I need my home to smell like this place every morning: rich coffee brewing and croissants coming out of the oven. A Spring Valley office park favorite for breakfast or lunch, Baguette Cafe’s everyday fragrance is beyond enticing. Let’s go with heavenly.

Dead set on having lunch for breakfast, I somehow bypass the specials—curry chicken panini or a Moroccan sandwich with three types of roasted peppers—and settle on buttery prosciutto, savory salami, mixed greens, tomato, softened blue cheese and walnuts on one of those perfectly crispy, warm baguettes ($6.95). The satisfying saltiness of the Italian meats with the tangy funk of blue cheese is a new combination for me, and the crunch of the walnuts is an interesting touch. It’s salad and sandwich united as one. Excuse me, I need a hot raisin croissant to go with my huge cappuccino.
