In a media release today, Tivoli Village, the shopping and dining destination at Alta Drive and Rampart Boulevard in northwest Las Vegas, announced Petra Greek Taverna has closed as of October 31. Taking the restaurant’s place will be Poppy Den, a new Asian restaurant from Top Chef contestant Angelo Sosa, set to open on New Year’s Eve.
According to the statement, the owners of Petra (Demetri and Dan Kouretas) worked with the management team at Tivoli Village to come to a “mutually agreed upon business decision that serves the respective interests of both parties.” Demetri Kouretas said, in the statement: “While we have realized our dream of serving our family-inspired Greek cuisine to our loyal guests, friends and family during our time at Tivoli Village, we felt it was time to explore new opportunities.” While the restaurant enjoyed a central location at the still-growing, pedestrian-friendly retail district, it failed to attract a faithful local following.
So now Sosa will give it a shot. “We believe this perfectly complements the diverse culinary landscape we are building here and adds exciting new dimension to the variety that we pride ourselves on offering the community,” said Tivoli Village president Patrick Done in the statement. Poppy Den is described as “a transporting culinary experience,” an Asian gastropub with a peaceful, garden-like setting.
This is the first Las Vegas appearance for Sosa, who has cooked at and consulted for restaurants including Acqua, Jean Georges, Spice Market, Morimoto and Buddakan. He is best known for appearing on Top Chef’s Season 7 and returning for Bravo TV’s Top Chef All Stars. Most recently, he launched Social Eatz and Anejo in New York City.
“I'm truly looking forward to cooking for the residents of the nearby Summerlin community in Las Vegas,” Sosa said in the statement. “This is such an exciting time to be at Tivoli Village, I'm honored to be a part of it.”
Other restaurants currently operating at Tivoli Village are: Bottles & Burgers, Brio, Kabuki, Leone Cafe, View Wine Bar and Kitchen and Yoscream.
