Thinking about urban park possibilities, ham radio’s comeback and more

    • For better

      In 1944, Wilbur and Theresa Faiss moved to North Las Vegas. In January, they were declared “the longest-married couple for 2012,” after 79 years. Last week, Mrs. Faiss passed away at the age of 97. Traditional vows say till death do us part, but I don’t think it applies. —Erin Ryan, staff writer

    • Ham it up

      When Sandy walloped the East Coast last week and everything went haywire, hospitals, shelters and the American Red Cross turned to amateur ham radio operators to assist in emergency communications. Come doomsday, it’s the ham radio clan that will inherit the Earth. Just call me KB1BIV. —Sarah Feldberg, editor

    • Do as Dallas does

      Klyde Warren Park, a Dallas deck park built over the city’s Woodall Rodgers Freeway, officially opened in late October. The urban space is intended to serve as a community hub, and connects Dallas’ uptown and downtown neighborhoods. Bridging the gap between two urban areas? Adding green space in the city’s urban core?
