Chump change
At local stores, Kroger turkeys are 69 cents a pound. At that price, the money spent by both presidential campaigns could have bought more than 2 billion pounds of bird for the hungry. That thought is almost as appalling as that clip of Sarah Palin at the turkey farm. —Erin Ryan, staff writer

Feeling squashed
I love pumpkin, but after the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard at Dairy Queen, pecan pumpkin oatmeal at Trader Joe’s and the pumpkin pie fro-yo at Yogurtland, I’m (a little) over it. —Don Chareunsy, contributing editor

Zombie addiction
Is there a faster hour of television these days than AMC’s The Walking Dead? Let me save you some time: No. —Ken Miller, associate editor
-
Language arts
I heard a football announcer use “man-beast” as a verb, as in, “He’s just man-beasting those blockers.” I chuckled, but I won’t be laughing if everyone on ESPN is saying it two months from now. —Spencer Patterson, managing editor

Bad choice
As a huge Breaking Bad fan, I’m still kicking myself for showing up later to the Zarkana premiere bash, where, unbeknownst to me, Aaron Paul made a cameo earlier in the night. Just to think—instead of running errands, I could’ve been yelling, “Champagne me, bitch!” —Andrea Domanick, staff writer
