UPDATE: Chef Carla Pellegrino announced on Facebook and Twitter Thursday evening that she is leaving her post as executive chef at Bacio, the Italian restaurant at Tropicana. Her statement: "My dear friends, due to personal needs and career growth opportunities, the Tropicana LV and I, agreed to go in different ways. This decision is the result of thoughtful consideration, and I remain respectful and grateful for my last 19 months as part of this wonderful family."
Meatball Spot, an Italian restaurant under construction at Town Square in the space formerly occupied by Nu Sanctuary, has a new chef attached: Carla Pellegrino.
Already chef/owner of Bratalian Neapolitan Cantina in Henderson and set to compete in the new season of Top Chef premiering on November 7, Pellegrino has fashioned a menu of pizzas, salads, sandwiches, pasta, gelato, cocktails, and of course, meatballs for the 7,000-square-foot restaurant located across from Rave Motion Pictures. "Everyone will feel right at home at Meatball Spot. I created this menu with the same love and attention to detail I would put into cooking for my own family," the chef said in a press release.
Digging deeper into the menu: The meatballs will come in classic, pork, beef, chicken, turkey, lamb and vegetarian, and diners will be able to order three with their choice of sauce and toasted bread for $6.95. Meatballs also come in sandwiches or on Roman-style thin crust pizzas. Meatball Spot will also offer a daily special meatball. The pizza will be served in half-tray portions that serve two to four people, and full-tray portions that serve four to six people. Other dishes include the strawberry balsamic salad, with spinach, cucumbers and candied pecans, rigatoni, risotto balls and truffle fries. The drink menu will include wine and beer, mojitos, margaritas, spiked root beer floats and signature strawberry sangria. For dessert, $2.50 scoops of gelato in flavors like Nutella, pistachio and sea salt-caramel should do the trick.
Meatball Spot will open next month for lunch and dinner Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m., Thursday from 11 a.m. until midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m.
