Five beers you should drink right now
Thu, Oct 25, 2012 (midnight)
Here at the Weekly we’re all about seasonal beers, and with this year’s brutal summer firmly in the books, we turned to a local expert to get us started on one of our favorite seasons for drinking: fall. We enlisted the help of Melissa Long Higgs, who as the beer vendor manager at Total Wine in Henderson teaches classes at the store on everything beer-related. All the following beers are available at Total Wine:
-
Samuel Adams Barrel Room New World Tripel
“A new twist to an old classic,” Higgs says. “This Tripel has beautiful spice flavors of clove, cinnamon and coriander with hints of citrus fruit and pineapple. This would be an excellent addition to Thanksgiving dinner.”
-
Firestone Double DBA
“Inviting caramel and toffee aromas with a hint of vanilla. The oak barrel aging adds layers of complexity with bourbon-like quality and a faint toasty oak finish. This is a nice sipper to be enjoyed on a cool evening.”
-
Uinta Oak Jacked imperial Pumpkin
“This amazing ale is like a slice of pumpkin pie in a glass. A beautiful bouquet of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg tease your nostrils, while your palate is met with a creamy full body delight.”
-
Alaskan Pilot Series Baltic Porter
“Inviting aromas of cherries and vanilla awaken your senses to complex flavors of chocolate, coffee and toffee, finishing with bourbon notes and a desire to finish the bottle.”
-
Nectar Black Xantus Imperial Stout
“This stout is as exotic as its name. Chocolate and espresso aromas greet you as you pour this rich stout into your glass. It goes on to not disappoint with velvety chocolate mocha flavors and hints of vanilla and bourbon notes.”
