The art of ink on skin has come a long way

When I walked into the Biggest Tattoo Show on Earth, it sounded like I had entered a beehive. Such was the noise of the estimated 1,000 tattoo artists piercing skin at 120-150 times a second. I was there with the loose idea of finding the most “extreme and interesting” tattooing going on, but my attention was quickly drawn to the traditional Japanese and Samoan tattooing. So we scrapped the idea of extreme and decided to cover what interested us. One aspect of tattooing that has come a long way in recent years, according to event organizer Mario Barth, is the advancement in the quality of portraits. Case in point: this man with a series of portraits, including a spot-on rendition of Salvador Dali.
