Dolly at the Las Vegas Pride Parade

Pride Night Parade | 4th Street and Bridger Avenue | September 7, 2012 | 7:07 p.m.

I love to sneak around, and being a photographer gives me an excuse to do just that. When I snuck to the backstage area of the 2012 Pride Night Parade pre-show last Friday evening, I saw a wonderful sight: drag queens getting ready. Drag queens are a special treat for me to photograph. They’re beautiful; they aren’t afraid to be garish and over-the-top; and they mostly love getting their photo taken. Kenneth Blake of Divas Las Vegas was about to go onstage to perform as Dolly Parton. He looked slightly nervous. I like that I caught him then—in that moment when a performer is mentally preparing to put on a great show.
