The Dillinger celebrates its first year in style with a Boulder City block party

Dillinger Anniversary

Boulder City block party. Those four words just sound right together, and last Saturday, they felt right, too. The Dillinger—Boulder City’s newish live-music hot spot—celebrated its one-year anniversary with a neighborly gathering befitting Las Vegas’ homier sibling to the southeast. We’re talking free beer, cheap hot dogs and good vibes from one end of Arizona Street to the other. Plus bands. Lots of ’em, powered by a generator reminiscent of the Valley’s bygone desert-show days.

So the sound got sorta messy. And lines for the Dillinger’s grub (and restrooms) got a little long. But when an announcer twice-misidentified a nighttime act as A Crowd of Small Avengers, it seemed more endearing than dim.

Also, this party was all-ages—in deed as well as name. That meant a little boy breakdancing had as much right to his space as the beer pong players had to theirs. And though police were present, they weren’t in a panic about the proximity of children to booze. How very un-Vegas.
