[The Backstory]

For UFC fighters, blood will spill. Sometimes it flies

Sometimes it’s the details that make a photo. Normally, this shot of UFC featherweight Frankie Edgar heading to his corner wouldn’t merit a second look (maybe for some it still doesn’t). But when editing through my take from his title fight against champion José Aldos for a second time, I spotted a frame where I’d caught little drops of blood suspended in front of his face. While the photo doesn’t add much to the understanding of the story (Edgar lost by unanimous decision), the symmetrical spheres contrasting with the mess of blood coming from his nose made for an interesting image.
