In the past, I’ve criticized Summerlin residents for refusing to make the trip to the Strip and dining only in their own neighborhood. Well, I’m with you now. Because now we have our very own Pink’s, set comfortably into a corner of the sportsbook at the Red Rock Resort. It's a perfect fit.
The iconic Hollywood hot dog joint arrived at the Planet Hollywood casino in 2009, and though it’s located right on the Strip, it’s far from convenient for locals. Now, nothing to worry about. Classic chili dogs and burgers as well as crazy creations like the pastrami burrito ($7.99)—a flour tortilla wrapped around two dogs, pastrami, Swiss cheese, chili and onions—are available in this new, neat little eatery.
What to try on my first visit to my new favorite diet-wrecker? The Red Rock Dog, of course, with grilled onions and mushrooms, three crispy strips of bacon and a generous slathering of nacho cheese saucing up the warm steamed bun. (I recommend you complement this with an order of chili fries, as you can’t really hit Pink’s without sampling some chili.) The Red Rock Dog ($7.49) is a true masterpiece, mainly because all these deliciously guilt-inducing toppings are piled on a juicy, spicy, snaps-when-you-bite-it Polish sausage. The standard Pink’s dog is tasty in its own right, but this plump Polish is an upgrade in every way. And for some reason, it goes great with bacon.
