Three big issues facing the Nevada Legislature
Wed, Jan 30, 2013 (3:18 p.m.)
1. Education Here’s what’s on the table: expanding full-day kindergarten and preschool education, as well as reducing class sizes. There’s only one problem: No one has come up with a way to pay for any of this, and with the state’s revenue structure requiring more and more cuts to education, we don’t see this having much of a chance.
1. Immigration Gov. Brian Sandoval supports a policy giving Dream Act immigrants state-issued driver’s licenses for job-seeking purposes. Another proposal would give driver’s “privilege cards” to illegal residents. We can almost hear the yelling in Carson City now.
3. Voter rights Secretary of State Ross Miller wants to include photos of registered voters in an electronic registry to eliminate voter fraud at the polls. It sounds like a good idea, so naturally, there should be plenty of argument against it.
