Tale of the tape: San Francisco beer vs. Baltimore beer
Thu, Jan 31, 2013 (midnight)
More Super Bowl
Baltimore's beer
Name: Stillwater’s Cellar Door
Style: American farmhouse ale
ABV: 6.6 percent
Size: 1 pint, 9.4 fluid ounces (sold in stand-alone bottles)
Tasting notes: A flavor behemoth. What hits you first here is a full, fruity saison taste, but the finish is something else entirely—hints of sage and spice (was that pepper I tasted?).
San Francisco's beer
Name: Speakeasy’s Big Daddy
Style: IPA
ABV: 6.5 percent
Size: 12 ounces (sold in six-packs)
Tasting notes: What a beer! The hoppiness is sharp on the front end, but the bitterness quickly dissipates, leaving you feeling refreshed. I could drink this all day.
The Winner
Speakeasy’s Big Daddy IPA. It was close. Real close.
