Jaleo, Picasso make the cut as James Beard Foundation Award nominees

Jaleo’s design at the Cosmopolitan is nominated for a James Beard Award.

The 2013 James Beard Foundation Awards announced their finalists today, and a few Las Vegas restaurants made the cut. The winners will be announced May 3.

Jaleo at Cosmopolitan is a finalist for the Best Restaurant Design award (76 seats and over), created by David Rockwell and his Rockwell Group. Picasso at Bellagio is a finalist for the Outstanding Wine Program Award. And though Valentino at Venetian is slated to close in June—and the award is likely more targeted at its sister Los Angeles venues—Pierro Selvaggio is a finalist for the Outstanding Restaurateur award.

Las Vegas had a handful of chefs in the semifinals this year, including Julian Serrano (Picasso, Julian Serrano), Mitsuo Endo (Raku) and Nicole Grimes (Rao's). This year's Outstanding Chef finalists are Sean Brock, David Chang, Gary Danko, Suzanne Goin, Paul Kahan and Nancy Silverton. The Outstanding Restaurant finalists are August (New Orleans), Blue Hill (NYC), Highlands Bar and Grill (Birmingham, Alabama), the Slanted Door (San Francisco) and Spiaggia (Chicago).
