If the lines outside Fremont’s Insert Coin(s) are any indication, “barcades” are a hot ticket. This Friday, Hooters Casino Hotel joins the genre with the opening of the aptly named Joystixx (two x’s, not three), a gaming and sports bar equipped with pool tables, video games and arcade classics. Open Thursday and Friday, 7 p.m.-3 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-3 a.m., the bar also has VIP tables with flat screens and “almost famous gamer girls.” No word yet on a King of Kong screening.
Advanced notice, winos: November means turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and early holiday displays, but it also means wine, more specifically Georges Duboeuf’s annual batch of Beaujolais nouveau. You can taste the 2011 vintage of the light red wine released the third week of November at a special Nouveau Expression party November 18 at Paris’ Chateau Nightclub & Gardens. The $30 entry includes sweets from Sugar Factory, a complimentary midnight wine toast and a bottle-shaped cake celebrating its arrival. Start practicing your pronunciation of “Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivé!”
Eloquently defined by Urban Dictionary as the act of “rocking out specifically at a party,” party rockin’ will be on display Thursday as 11 DJs battle at the Red Bull Thre3Style National Finals. The competition features DJs from across the country performing 15-minute sets, which must showcase at least three genres of music and wow a panel of judges that includes DJ Vice, Sujit Kundu of SKAM Artists and Matt Adell of Beatport. The winner—based on creativity, mixing skills, stage presence and, of course, how well he rocks the party—gets to compete in the international throwdown next month. You? You get a night out with Vice and Talib Kweli headlining free if you you text “3Style” to 72855.
