Located a couple blocks east of the Strip on Paradise Road at the south end of the Vegas “Fruit Loop” of gay bars and clubs, 81/2 Ultra Lounge and Piranha nightclub are the reigning queens of gay Vegas nightlife. Appearances can be deceiving: The outside may not look like much, but inside (the clubs were extensively remodeled and then re-opened in 2006) you will find two floors worth of nightclub and plenty to like.
With a swanky mountain lodge atmosphere, 8 ½ Ultra Lounge features a pool table, retro arcade games like Ms. Pac Man and Galaga, an outdoor patio with multiple fireplaces, and a stage for live performances recent entertainers included Tiffany and Debby Holiday. When you’re ready to get your freak on, you can pass under a tank of live fish to the two dance floors of Piranha. You can dance like no one is watching, but the people in the upstairs VIP area and skyboxes probably are—they have an overhead view of the dance floor as well as a panoramic view of the Strip. And you never know who you'll see at this seven-night a week hot spot: Celebs like Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee have been known to hideout at 8 1/2 and Pirahna when they're in town.
