The 'Golden Age' of Hip Hop is over. Not to be forgotten but to be updated, changed, and modified to fit the current culture.
We are so caught up in the 'movement of gangsta-rap' that we knock hip hop and accept voices like Tila Tequila.
Lil John is too aggressive, curses entirely too much, and hypes the urban crowd up to the point that violence 'may' ensue. But we fail to consider the endless, peaceful, drunk drivers hitting the streets after a long night at Pure, Tao, or Rain"How about the loud rock where you can't even UNDERSTAND what they say"but the crowd is hype and jumping"too high to violent or be upset"
As an onlooker, the Automatic tour is completely different from what people have identified the new age of hip hop to be.
It is exciting that YA Poet has compiled acts of several genres: rock, rap, R&B and poetry/spoken word all under the hip hop envelope. I would love to see a cross between the two"like"a hard core guitarist playing for one of the rappers"spoken word with an R$B song"just mix and match. Hopefully the artists will be put into an environment where they can really exhibit their artistic attributes"and not just the ones of mimicry.
