Mr. Friess: For the past several years, veterans organizations led by retired US Marine Chris Christoff have been trying to convince Mayor Goodman to help them find only $800,000 to erect a monument to our nation's fallen war heroes. The location is to be on the now closed Huntridge Circle Park on Maryland Pky. The idea is that by designating the park as sacred ground, it would be treated with the respect such a monument deserves, instead of the disrespectful way the park was previously treated which led to its closure. So far, the mayor and his minions have seen fit to completely ignore our city's veteran population in this regard, and instead insult these fine men and women by even the mention of a museum devoted to those who struck out at all of what our country stands for. The Veterans Memorial Park plan is a much better use of tax dollars, and might help to elevate this town into a city, instead of a laughing stock.
