I've read this feature several times now, both in print and online and it appears that the writer did not prepare for these interviews, did no research whatsoever on the bands and individuals being highlighted.
It reads snarkish and sarcastic as though written by a Country & Western fan forced by tough economic times to take on a story they weren't really interested in covering with vague generalities and disconnected references to barely relevant comparisons.
How about the next time actually naming the members of the bands you interviewed, the readers may be interested in whom actually showed up for the debriefing.
And either the writer's memory has faded, her notes were eaten by the family mutt or... she just did not listen to what she was told.
Since when did Brent Muscat become the "bass player?" In both Faster Pussycat and Sin City Sinners, Muscat plays lead guitar.
Though Mike Szuter does jump back and forth between bass guitar and lead guitar on a couple of Sinners' songs, he is the bass guitarist of Sin City Sinners and had the writer bothered to identify the members, actually ask what their function was within the band, the readership might have a more detailed and accurate represenation of whom was actually interviewed.
"The blond drummer" the writer refers to is one of the most respected drummers in Rock & Roll and in a story about Sin City Sinners, deserves to have a name.
Perhaps the writer could not spell "Rob Cournoyer" the only band member not properly identified during the 'Sinners' interview. I found that disrespectful and poor journalism.
I understand it is an editorial and the snarky attitude of the writer provides the flavor and color to the commentary, but... that does not excuse the lack of identification of band members and inaccuracy of details.
In journalism, good journalism, even the small details are important and should be accurate.
Yes! I know something about journalism, I am an award-winning journalist, as if that moniker and two dollars would buy a good cup of coffee.
